Uncovering Scotland’s Iron Age; excavations of wetland sites in SW Scotland – Anne Crone

We are very excited to announce that Anne Crone of AOC Archaeology will be giving her talk ‘Uncovering Scotland’s Iron Age; excavations of wetland sites in SW Scotland’ at 6 p.m. on Tuesday 9th April in the reconstructed Crannog Roundhouse.

Numbers are restricted so please book early by calling the Centre on 01887 830583.

Tickets are £9.00 per person and include soup, teas and coffees.

Following the talk and refreshments, informal discussion will take place in the Museum’s exhibition space with the opportunity to see coarse stone tools recovered from the Black Loch site together with artefacts from our collection with our museum curator, Frances Collinson.

Anne Crone:
From 1977 to 1992 Anne worked as a free-lance field archaeologist primarily in Scotland and has directed a wide range of archaeological excavations. During this period, she developed an expertise in the analysis of structural and artefactual wood, and trained as a dendrochronologist, completing a PhD on the subject in 1988. She joined AOC in 1992 and manages a variety of post-excavation, publication and research projects. She continues to specialise in the analysis of all aspects of wood assemblages, particularly dendrochronology and pursues her research interest in Scottish Crannogs lecturing and publishing on both subjects. She is a founder member of the Scottish Wetland from 1997-9 as Vice President of the Council for Scottish Archaeology from 2000-2004.
