The Rock of Ages

Saturday the 6th of June 12 till 4
Sunday the 7th of June 12 till 4

Join us in the shadow of the rock and celebrate Norse history and heritage. As the Vikings invade Dumbarton you will have the opportunity to find out all about their influence on Scotland from raiding to conquests and settlements to integration and discovering how relevant it all is today. You will come away asking yourself ‘are we all really Vikings?’

The Year of Coasts and Waters is a celebration of Scotland’s coastline and the role that it’s played in shaping who we are, who better to showcase this than the Vikings! They invented the first compass – an indispensable tool for sea navigation and a piece of equipment now adorning every vessel on the ocean.

Come along and discover more about this early coastal raids, arts, craftsmanship and music. Discover what the Norse settlers brought to our shores.

This year The Rock of Ages will also form part of the Dumbarton 2020 Festival.
